One of the most challenging months for carp fishing in October. The reason for this is different weather, approaching winter, changing of the food base, lowering the water temperature and other. All this affect the carp, which becomes lazy and more passive, although it tries to fatten before each pond is covered with ice. Therefore, our task is to tell you about everything that can help you with a problematic autumn fishing.
First of all, fishing carp in October as well as in November will require careful choice of a place on the pond because this fish is absent in the sites where it was caught in summer or in September. The decrease in water temperature, the rotting of seaweeds and the migration to the depth of many aquatic organisms, which are their primary food base, cause the carp to go away from the shoreline. And if October turned out to be cold and there were frosts up to -5-10 ° C, then it could go to depths from 5 to 10 m to find winter holes. Naturally, under such conditions, the fish is biting completely inactive, because all its metabolic processes are slowing down.
Where to find carp in autumn
Another case is if it’s golden autumn – it’s sunny and warm enough outdoors. Then, even though it is October, carp continues to eat intensively at depths of 2- 5 m. And in warm autumn weather, the fish can bite in the summer places:
- in snags;
- near sites with dense water;
- near the fallen trees or in flooded bushes;
in small pits; - in the deep water near the shore, and so on.
But despite the sunny days, autumn will still cool the water.
Therefore, in the second half of October and in November, in search of food and of a warmer environment, carp should be
primarily at a depth of 3 to 6 m.
Baits for carp catching in October
Because in October and November the water temperature drops to 5-10 ° C, carp not only look for places for wintering but also try to be fattened. He eats any bait at this time, but most of his taste preferences depend on the weather. If it is warm and sunny, it can easily be tempted with the dough, barley, peas, especially soaked in milk, etc. When the weather is right, the best baits are those flavoured with a strawberry, vanilla or fruit odour.
However, the colder it becomes, the more this fish prefers animal food. Therefore, in October, it is caught not only with worms, spoons or moths but also with the meat of crayfish and shrimp or boilies of the corresponding “meat” tastes. Carp also like fermented corn and boiled potatoes in autumn. It is worth continually experimenting with nozzles because on each pond the carp has its taste preferences.
