How to fish carp in winter? What bait and boilies use?

It may sound strange how to fish carp in winter? But both in winter and in summer carp is at the same place. In summer the fish is looking for coolness there while in winter the water in such areas is slightly warm.

Furthermore, the food supply is better there. Not only holes and valleys can be suitable for fishing but also nearby entries and exits from the deep end. When the pond is unknown to you, don’t look for carp only in the deep water. Fish choose not only a comfortable place but also secure. The best options for them will be overgrown bodied with water, sunken boats, crashed bridges. If the depth there is more than 2 meters, there is a strong possibility that you will find fish. Atmospheric pressure also influences winter fishing because when the pressure is high, there is more fish in the upper layer of water. That’s why depending on the load the depth of our fishing also changes.

Сharacteristics of the fishing rod

In spite of the cases that someone fished carp with a lure you better should use float fishing rod to catch massive fish. Even a rookie can quickly gather all the tackle. You can use a self-made or purchased rod. The main thing about it is that it should have a strong and tight blank and a reliable connection with a handle. It is compulsory to have a reel, better with a friction brake which helps while the sharp shocks.

Fishers have different thoughts while choosing the best fishing line. Some fishermen advise using a monofilament fishing line with a diameter of 0.20-0.25 mm, while others recommend a braided line with a thickness of 0.04-0.06 mm.
The bursting force of such lines is enough for carving winter carp in the clean water area. But when you are fishing in the buckwheat, it is necessary to use the mono line with a diameter of 0.3 mm. The braid is suitable for fishing into a thaw. To see the moment of bite, the rod is equipped with a float. It can be a Vagler model which is 3.5-4 cm in length. While the carp are biting the cork will rise and lower by 1-2 cm. A flat model called a “tablet” is better for frosty weather. During the bite on the rise, the body lays down on the water, which makes the moment of striking more obvious.

You can fish carp on an ordinary hook or a spoon bait. The size of this fishing element is chosen to take into account the nozzle used and the size of the expected fish. Hooks number 8-12 are quite suitable for equipping a winter fishing rod.
Many winter fishermen recommend covering the holes with a piece of plywood, plastic or cardboard. It is especially useful during sunny and frosty weather. A slot is made there for a line.

From the edges, the “dimmer” can be sprinkled with snow, which prevents the water in the hole from freezing. Then, by one movement of the hand, you can remove the plywood and begin to fish.

Bait and boilies

You can make a carp stand near the holes only with the help of a lure. The primary task of the feed mixture is to awaken the appetite of the carp and to hold it at the chosen place. To carve the carp in winter, you need to be careful. Due to the consumption of a small amount of food, the volume of the mixture should be low. Otherwise, the fish quickly becomes filled up and loses all interest.

To catch the trophy carp, you can use the ball of breadcrumbs fried in butter, 10- 20 grains of pearl barley or corn like a homemade bait. Among branded lure, you can use only those that do not have a sharp, strong smell.

Bait

The best baits for catching winter carp are traditionally bloodworms, dowry, bark beetle and caddis flies. Domesticated carp and river carp usually take such nozzles. River carp, as a rule, does not refuse to eat marine molluscs. Carp can also be caught using other fish. But, since these attachments can attract not only carp, it is worth trying to hunt with a boilie.

Boilie

You can catch carp with boilies. Boilies are balls made from flour, flavouring, egg powder and other elements unusual for fish. The components are boiled, dried, and then used for attachment or complementary feeding. Boilies can be bought or prepared by yourself. To make them more attractive, we use flavours such as cod liver oil, various flavour enhancers. To make them more interested in fish, they are coloured with food colours. If you cook boilies at home, then you can make them of different shapes, and then find out which are the best. Boilies are also used to fish on the bottom.

Fishing carp with a spoon bait

Carp can be caught on a fishing rod with a side nod and a spoon bait. Don’t choose a short bow. The diameter of the monofilament line when fishing for spoon bait should be from 0.12 mm to 0.16 mm. The substantial thickness of the fishing line scares the fish. If you use a braid, the diameter will be less than 0.8 and 0.1 mm with the same breaking load. Carp biting is fast, and it is important not to miss the bite. Sometimes this type of fish is caught on a perch spoon. The best spoon baits used in fishing for carp are pellets of metallic colour. It’s okay if they have a loop for fastening so that the line is not cut off. It is usually planted a bundle of bloodworms on the spoon bait.

Spoon baits must be installed 5 centimetres from the bottom. This fish does not like noise. Therefore, neither knocking nor playing with spoon bait are not allowed.

Tactics and wiring techniques

It depends on the tactics if you will find the fish on the pond or not. If you are fishing in a small pond, finding a carp will not be difficult, and if you see a large water area with a rugged coastal relief and a lot of holes, then you will have to work hard to find the carp. The first thing you need to track the roughness of the bottom. If you have an echo sounder, such a task will not become impossible for you, and you can easily track down the depths. But what if there is no echosounder? In such a case, we can find the spit by changing the coastal relief.

The relief continues not only on land but also under water.

Beginning fishing is better from deep places since in the morning the carp is in-depth and during the day it runs aground to eat small fish and bloodworms. The technique of bait wiring is effortless. We lower the bait to the bottom and first start to beat the bottom. Carp is a bottom fish and will not miss such a swarming. The game should be performed at a low frequency and should be given long pauses. On the hook you can attach sponge, so the bait will still smell sweet. If the bait was not followed at the bottom, you need to tear it from the bottom and perform in another horizon, but do not forget about the pause. I recommend catching a little mass if the biting is low, and when it is right, then you can choose bigger bait, it will be attractive to tempt a carp to attack.
